I'll make sure to get my hands on Virginia's diaries. I've just learned a lot about her and the essence of writer's hardships. It puts my mere efforts in a new perspective, for sure ;)

"It was a reminder that making art is hard, especially when it’s your job, and that despite that immense difficulty, for some like Virginia Woolf, it is necessary. " - I love it, it's so ture! I need to read more Virgina Woolf!

I need to read more of her now too! She is such a fascinating person and getting a peek into her inner world through her diary is really special. I told myself I'd now read through her novels, after reading the behind-the-scenes process/struggle of each one in her diaries, but we'll see when/if that happens :)

Yes, I love diving into someone’s creative process and life, it ads an additional layer to their art! Finding time is always tricky, but at least we’re motivated now 😁

My favourite Virginia Woolf quote is from her speech/essay A Room of One’s Own: “Women have served all these centuries as looking-glasses possessing the magic and delicious power of reflecting the figure of man at twice its natural size”. Love her concept of the ‘widow bird’ in her short story ‘A Summing Up’ too.

Thanks so much for sharing that quote, James - I also love A Room of One's Own though it's been a while since I've read it. I've never read "A Summing Up" - I'll check that out!

I love these quotes, Emily. I read Virginia Woolf’s diary the summer after my twin boys were born, when all I did was sit on the couch and nurse babies. My mind felt bereft, and her diaries helped soothe it. Thank you!
